Here's a nice essay on the mysterious cover for Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures". It sounds cheesy, but I do remember the moment I saw this album in a record store my freshman year of college. Just stepping out of a heavy Yes obsession, and stepping knee deep in Warp record's back catalogs, I had never heard of Joy Division. But the second I saw the cover, I remember desperately wanting to hear whatever sounds it protected so intensely.
