December 2007 Archives

Interesting. Fox Searchlight Pictures put the scripts for their current films on their website as PDF downloads. I wonder what their reason is.
Black hole attacks neighboring galaxy. Tell me that isn't the most epic battle you've ever heard of.
Looks like deals are finally settled to work on a, wait, make that two Hobbit films, and there's a chance Peter Jackson might just be back at the helm.
Finally! Conan is to return to the air without his writing staff, of course keeping his humor about it all:

[O'Brien] acknowledged that his show "will not be as good" without his writing staff. "In fact, in moments it may very well be terrible."

Oh yeah, and Leno is coming back, too. Eh.
The trailer of the year for the movie of the year? C'mon… hit me.
My personal favorite group (which makes this post-worthy), Autechre, are releasing a new album early 2008. It's called Quaristice. It's gonna be a great year.
Now another The Dark Knight international one-sheet has leaked, but this one features Mr. J himself. The scenerio here makes more sense now with both posters revealed: Batman trapped in a cage, helpless to protect the city from the Joker loose in the streets.
Rick Poyner is returning to Design Observer as a regular contributing writer. Welcome back Rick. I, for one, have definitely missed his voice in the mix at DO.
So red is the color of doomed comedy, and it was just brought to my attention that Trajan is the movie font. Astute observations, Mr. Ferguson. Here's a blog with plenty more examples.
The first international The Dark Knight one-sheet has been revealed. Pretty epic. Also, I can't help but notice the odd setting—inside a building? And I doubt the jail cell-like bars keeping him from Gotham are entirely coincidental. Interesting.

Note: Updated with correct and larger image.

My Arcade Fire / Sergio Leone video Bodycage (short title for the film, in case you haven't picked up on that) made Pitchfork's list of Top 50 Music Videos of 2007! Wonderful news.
Coudal's Swap Meat has a new item that I'm definitely going to need: a Chicago neighborhoods typographic poster by Jennifer Beorkrem. Nice work.
Who is the most superest super hero? I ask myself that question every day. This site is hilarious, but it might not be so easy to jump into. It makes sense if you go to the very first post, and follow it chronologically from there. I'm just waiting to find Batman at the end of all of this.
"Didier Massard’s photographs look like they could have been on the cover of your favorite book as a child, or come straight out of that weird dream you had last night. Massard’s “tabletop” photography captures locations that he’s imagined, built as models, lit, and then brought to life."
Carlos Segura has joined the Coudal Swap Meat offering a couple of his beautiful and rare oversized Corbis catalogs. Pricey, maybe, but worth every penny. I know because I have them all (wink).
Here's a brilliant sampling of Johnny Greenwood's score for There Will Be Blood. From the sound of it, he's really taking advantage of his opportunities with orchestra. This will be a Western soundtrack like no other.
The teaser poster for The Dark Knight has been revealed. Also, in select IMAX theaters, a prologue to the film introducing the new and improved Mr. J will be showing with the release of I am Legend. I have tickets for a screening of it here in Chicago for this Thursday. Can't wait to see that wonderful smile in action.
