No Music for Old Men

"If you ask film composers — and I have — whether they feel there’s too much or too little music in the average film, they will all say too much." Carter Burwell is the composer for the Coen brothers' film No Country for Old Men. If that sounds strange to you, you're correct to think so… since the film has no music. Another remarkable thing about this for me is that I didn't notice the film had no music until the very end of the second time I saw it in theatres. That's so strange because I definitely didn't notice that.

When I saw Burwell in the credits for No Country my eyebrow went up. I didn't notice the lack of music the first go around either.

I was wondering what you think of Greenwood's score for There Will be Blood.

I thought it was just brilliant.

I saw TWBB last night. I'm still in a post-incredible-movie-haze. I agree, the score was wild and pretty much perfect. I'm gonna sit on it a little, maybe buy the score to listen some more, and hopefully I'll come around with some more to say.

But I hope Greenwood gets more commissions like this.

i love how the mariachi band is the first time you actually hear any music in NCFOM.

there will be blood is the next movie im going to go see...
